Wisma Putra has reported no verified accounts of Malaysians aboard the Jeju Air aircraft that tragically crashed today in South Korea, resulting in a minimum of 120 fatalities.
The foreign ministry indicated that the Malaysian embassy in Seoul is diligently collecting data from official channels and keeping an eye on the unfolding situation.
“At the time of writing, there is no confirmation of Malaysian participation in the incident,” the ministry stated in a release at 11am.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of those affected during this challenging time.”
Wisma Putra mentioned it will persist in offering updates as new information comes to light and urged Malaysians in need of assistance or information to reach out to the Malaysian embassy in Seoul.
According to Yonhap news agency, Jeju Air flight 7C2216 drifted off the runway and crashed into a wall at Muan International Airport in South Korea at 8.07am Malaysian time.
The mishap took place as the flight from Bangkok, which had 175 passengers and six crew members, was descending toward the airport located approximately 300km southwest of Seoul
